April 6

Another gem from the “estate” pick… my first ever Sun Records label!

The Golden Cream of the Country from Jerry Lee Lewis.

Unfortunately it’s a post 1969 issue, that’s after the Sam Phillips heyday when a Mercury Records producer named Shelby Singleton bought Phillips out. Singleton then went out and re-released and re-packaged much of Sun’s catalog, including this collection.

It’s a good record, don’t get me wrong, with songs by many classic country tunes penned by Hank Williams, George Jones and others. These tunes are all “Killer-afied” by Jerry Lee… plus the vinyl is in really good shape.

Will it be ever present on my turntable? Probably not, but it’ll make a nice companion when I want to hoe down!
