July 6

Today in Beatles History: July 6, 1957 The Quarrymen perform at the Woolton Parish Church Fete. Ivan Vaughan introduces Paul to John. The rest, as they say, is history.

what a better way to celebrate than hoisting a pint and listening to the first U.S. Beatles record, Introducing… The Beatles:

Mine is a counterfeit copy of unknown lineage, but it is really clean and sounds great!

For good measure, let’s also have a listen to Meet The Beatles:

Mine is a 1965 repress with the olive green “Beatles” on the cover. You know, it doesn’t sound half bad for a 50 year old relic (being played on a 50 year old receiver by another 50 year old relic)!

What can I say about this group that hasn’t been said a million times before? The band, the music, is the high water mark on which all other bands , all other music is judged. And so it will be until another band, more influential, more popular, more groundbreaking, comes along.

I’m not going to hold my breath.
