I’ve said this before, but one good thing about being in the middle of this 365 Days Of Vinyl is that you don’t have to think about what to give as gifts… it’s just a matter of what record to present.
Today is my wedding anniversary and my lovely wife snuck out to the record store and picked me up a still sealed 180 gram limited edition copy of John Coltrane – A Love Supreme!
This is the 1995 version reissue series by Impulse! for the 30th anniversary of the original release. This is my favorite Coltrane album, although my experience is very limited. I once had a chance to demo a half dozen of his albums on CD and was drawn to this one midway between his hard bop and more free jazz phases.
For my part, I found a nice used copy of Tears For Fears – Songs From The Big Chair:
Since we’d been listening to, talking about and hunting for so much music lately, I’d discovered that Big Chair had been my wife’s first (and one of her most beloved) cassettes from back in the day. It only seems fair that, since I’m trying to recreate the record collection of my youth that we build up her collection as well.
And that ain’t all! Coincidently Melissa Etheridge, Joan Jett and Blondie are all three playing a concert at the local casino tonight, so the anniversary of love and music continues.
There will be flowers too, of course… maybe made out of some old vinyl records???
